Removable Dentures are used in cases where the abutment teeth will not be able to handle the future load for a fixed bridge prosthesis, when the areas with missing teeth are too large or do not terminate with another tooth at the end.
If there is any tooth that can act as an abutment in the mouth, the procedure is called a partial denture, and if there is no tooth left and it sits on the tissue surface, it is called a total denture. Partial dentures are dental and tissue supported prosthetic applications. For tooth support, the tips called crochet are attached to the part of the tooth under the convex area close to the gingiva, therefore retention is ensured. The tissue support is provided by the tissue surface on which the prosthesis sits. Thus, the force is distributed to the tooth and tissue.
